ENVIRONMENT CONSERVATION


GHAROA launched its first Environment programme on 5th June 1992 and thereafter headed towards a Green Lumding mission. With the help of Engineering Department of Railway and Social Forestry Department the first mass plantation was held in July 1992 in tow vacant lands of Lumding. Hundreds of Students, Railway Officials, Cadets of Bharat Scouts and Guides, RPSF Personnel, Teachers and Enthusiasts joined yearlong programme. Parks and road side plantation and plantation nearthe railway track was coordinately done.

With the advent of plantation programme emphasis was given on Environment Education and Centre for Environment Education- Northeast extended their help in supplying books, posters charts, games and conducting workshop for Teachers. Later on with the financial help of Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF) New Delhi Eco clubs were formed in Schools. Annual Exhibition and Conference were conducted among the member of the Eco Clubs and students were taken to visit the National Parks and Sanctuaries.

National Green Corpse replaced the ECO Clubs and GHAROA coordinated 50 Clubs in the Hojai subdivision.


It started an advocacy programme along with other State level, National and International NGOs to declare Lumding Forest as Elephant Reserves and it was later on accepted by the Government. GHAROA relentlessly working to mitigate Human Elephant Conflict and closely working with Railways and Forests Officials through organizing workshops, training and round table conferences.
