Pathway 2; Right to Adequate Food and Nutrition

Target area

Districts of Goalpara and Sonitpur in Assam

Target Groups

Women’s Federation

Aims

As we know in India, across the states, maternal and child under nutrition accounts for a high burden of morbidity and mortality. In the state of Assam, according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4), 37% children under age of five years are stunted, or too short for their age, which indicates that they have been undernourished for some time. Seventeen per cent are wasted, or too thin for their height, which may result from inadequate recent food intake or a recent illness. About one-third (30%) are underweight which can be accounted to both chronic and acute under nutrition.

Considering these significant facts, and in an attempt to address some of the concerns and issues of Malnutrition in the state, GHAROA in collaboration with the Netherland based association CEA (Civic Engagement Alliance) has started a programme called Realising the Right to Adequate Food and Nutrition.

To convene, convince and build capacities of all relevant stakeholders

To develop an evidence based research to improve the current scenario on nutrition.
